Lawn Aeration in Milton Keynes
The soil in gardens in the Milton Keynes area tends to be fairly clayey. You will probably have noticed this when gardening. All lawns can become compacted due to heavy usage, for example playing on them or even walking on them, and most will become compacted over time; clay soils are particularly prone to compaction though.
When a lawn becomes compacted the best way to address this is by aerating it. This just means making holes all over the lawn to allow water and nutrients to get to the roots. However if the compacted soil is heavy with clay it is very difficult to do this without using a machine. In addition merely putting holes into the lawn doesn’t really address the problem as the process often just moves the compaction. At All Green Lawn Services we use hollow-tine aeration which removes plugs of soil from the lawn, rather than just poking holes in it. Because we use professional heavy duty machines, All Green doesn't face the problem of the aerator becoming blocked – an issue that often faces manual or more lightweight aerators.
Milton Keynes also contains a relatively high number of new housing developments, and consequently newly laid lawns. If you have a newly laid lawn at your Milton Keynes home aeration can help the grass’s root system develop and grow, giving you a healthy, thicker lawn.
Year Round Milton Keynes Lawn Treatment Programme
As a lawn care services company that is based not far from Milton Keynes, we are located in a great position to provide you with regular and consistent lawn care treatments. Our no-contract all year round lawn treatment programme addresses the needs of your lawn in different seasons. From spring to winter we can treat your Milton Keynes lawn with the right types of fertiliser and weed killers. As with all our treatments we start with a free lawn analysis which will identify which treatments your lawn would benefit from most.
Our spring fertiliser treatments focus on boosting nutrients after the winter, while weed killers are designed to treat broad-leafed weeds like dandelions. In summer we apply treatments into early and late summer to recognise the differing needs of your lawn. Low-scorch early summer fertilisers give a controlled release of nutrients while later summer fertilisers take the lawn through to autumn. While early summer weed killers target weeds like germander speedwell which are hard to kill, in late summer we concentrate on recently germinated weeds.
When autumn comes we think about preparing your lawn for the winter and spot treating any remaining weeds. During the winter All Green’s lawn care treatments focus on strengthening roots and controlling moss.
Milton Keynes Lawn Scarification
If your Milton Keynes lawn has developed a heavy layer of thatch it may benefit from scarification. Lawn thatch is a matted layer of grass roots, leaves and grass stems that forms on top of the soil. Heavy clay soils, such as those found in and around Milton Keynes, may be particularly susceptible to lawn thatch as it can be difficult for grass to root deeply.
To remove this layer All Green Lawn Treatments uses a professional petrol scarifier that will remove thatch from the lawn. Milton Keynes is well known for the amount of trees that have been planted in the new town area. While they look beautiful, if trees are growing close to the lawn this may mean that parts of your lawn is in shade which can encourage the growth of moss. Lawn scarification will also remove moss from your lawn.
Milton Keynes Lawn Pests and Diseases
All Green can treat a range of the lawn diseases and pests that can trouble Milton Keynes lawns. We have helped our customers in Milton Keynes rid their lawns of such diseases as red thread and rust. Red thread is a fungal disease which causes patches of dead grass, and is characterised by red thread-like growths on the leaves of the grass. Rust diseases are also fungal and, as the name suggests, can leave a rust-coloured deposit on shoes when you walk on the grass which may help you identify if your lawn is affected.
Milton Keynes is blessed with a wide variety of birdlife but you don’t want them pecking at your lawn. If you do notice them digging at the lawn with their beaks it could be a sign that you have chafer grubs or leatherjackets in your grass, as the birds like to feed on them. All Green use biological nematodes to treat these; these treatments are safe to use around pets and children. This means you don’t have to keep them off your Milton Keynes lawn.
If you discover a wasps’ nest on your property, All Green help with that too. Wasps’ nests are often found in trees, lofts or at the edge of roofs. It’s always better to ask a professional to destroy it for you, and as All Green are based close to Milton Keynes we can generally respond quite quickly to requests to destroy wasps nests.

Main Problems
This lawn was heavily compacted, and the grass was patchy and had weeds throughout. It needed a variety of treatments to start to reverse its ongoing decline.
How All Green Helped
To tackle the compaction we aerated the lawn, releasing the pressure in the ground and letting water and nutrients reach the grass. During the same period we scarified the lawn to remove thatch, followed by over seeding to tackle the thin patches. These services were complemented by a fertiliser and herbicide treatment. Just 8 weeks after starting work the customer had a lush green lawn.
We continue to work with the client to maintain the quality of the grass via our year round lawn treatment programme. We forecast that the lawn will benefit from a spring aeration to help it to completely flourish.

Main Problems
The customer wanted help dealing with a wide-ranging problem with weeds. There was a particular issue with speedwell, a very invasive weed that can be very troublesome in lawns.
How All Green Helped
All Green implemented our year round lawn treatment plan. This saw us apply seasonally appropriate fertilisers and selective herbicides. This encouraged the growth of healthy grass while simultaneously killing weeds. After 1 year the lawn was healthy and weed-free. We have now been working with this client for a number of years to maintain their lush lawn.

Main Problems
This large lawn had quite a few problems that weren’t being satisfactorily addressed by the lawn treatment company that the customer was using. These included weeds, moss, lawn thatch and red thread.
How All Green Helped
We took over the care of this lawn and started a comprehensive lawn treatment plan to address the many issues with it. Aeration and scarification were carried out. Aeration relieved the soil compaction which was itself aggravating the moss problem. This can be quite common in heavy clay soils such as those around Milton Keynes. The lawn scarification removed both moss and thatch allowing the lawn to receive valuable nutrients. These were boosted by our seasonal fertiliser treatments.
All Green also implemented a programme of herbicides to tackle weeds, and eliminated the red thread problem. The customer could not be happier.
